Original illustration. Oi painting on artist board. 29 1/2 x21 (sight), 32 x24 in. (frame). From a Connecticut estate. Great looking original painting. Created by Christian Richard “Dick” Schaare. One of a kind piece which includes the portraits of Joe Louis, Jack Dempsey, Jim Jeffries, Jess Willard and Tom Shirley. Christian Richard "Dick" Schaare Jr. was one of the notable sports artists of the early 20th century. Between 1932 and 1941 he painted a remarkable series of eighty-two covers for the boxing periodical, The Ring. He grew to become a close friend of the publisher, Nat Fleischer. This is original art on artist board with bold color, signed by the artist in the lower right. wonderful depiction of a bygone era in boxing the art of C.R.Schaare is among the most collected in the hobby.
