Description
Three (3) Peruvian Chavin pottery vessels. 1st item: Stirrup spout vessel with stylized, geometric face designs incised onto two sides of body, flat base. 11 5/8" H x 5 5/8" dia. 2nd item: Stirrup spout vessel with applied swirl designs against a textured ground to body, flat base. 9 7/8" H x 5 1/2" dia. 3rd item: Stirrup spout vessel with a band of stylized, geometric faces incised to body, rounded base. 8 1/2" H x 5 1/2" dia. All items Pre-Columbian, circa 900-200 BC. Provenance: Estate of Martha Lyman, Dayton, TN. (Additional high-resolution photos are available at www.caseantiques.com.)
Condition
1st item: Minor overall wear consistent with age to the top of the body, stirrup, and neck. Chipping to the rim of the vessel, with largest chip being 3/8" in length. Three individual hairline cracks visible on the exterior with the largest being 1 1/2" in length on the base. 2nd item: Moderate wear to stirrup handle and neck of vessel consistent with age. Multiple areas of restoration to handle and body where chipped material was reapplied, with the largest being 2 3/4" long on one swirl design. Old sticker labels on the base. 3rd item: Minor wear to stirrup handle. Very slight flaking of paint on the neck above stirrup, with largest patch being 3/8" in length.
