Description
1822 Colley Cibber Autobiography An Apology English Theater Acting Plays Poetry
A rare first edition printing of Colley Cibber’s autobiography. Cibber was a well-known and highly praised English actor in the late 17th- and 18th-centuries. His autobiography, also known as ‘An Apology’, was unlike many autobiographies in that Cibber was often inaccurate of his own life and very vain, making himself out to be more than he was. It was quite popular when it was first published, and even with its flaws, was enjoyed by critics Alexander Pope and Samuel Johnson.
This 1822 edition was published in London by Simpkin and features critical and explanatory notices by Edmund Bellchambers.
