Medium: Oil on masonite panel
Measures: 21 inches x 17.5 inches sight size, and 23.75 inches x 20.25 inches x 1.5 inches overall including framing.
Notes: Housed in the original metal capped frame, consistent with frames chosen by the artist for his works. The frame shows wear minor damage consistent with age.
Provenance: From a Berkeley, CA collection.
About the artist: Raymond (Carl Raymond) Jonson, (1891-1982), was an influential modern artist in the American Southwest. Jonson was born in Iowa, raised in Portland, OR, and lived in Chicago briefly, but it was the American Southwest that captured the soul of Raymond Jonson and kept him there for the remainder of his life. Jonson was greatly influenced by two Russian artist: Wassily Kandinsky and Nicolas Roerich. Kandinsky’s works at the 1913 Armory show had a profound effect, and Roerich’s inclinations toward spirituality and art was influential in Jonson’s co-founding the Transcendental Painting Group. Raymond Jonson's works are held in private and public collections around the world.
