Greek, Hellenistic Period, ca. 3rd to 2nd century BCE. A squat red-slip pottery pyxis used for holding cosmetics, ointments, or trinkets. The quadruped vessel has four tab-shaped feet, each with a small pierced hole, and four similar tab-shaped and pierced handles on the rounded shoulders. A wide, apple-shaped body and upturned rim with a wide mouth give this pyxis the characteristic appearance of Hellenistic Greece. Size: 3" H (7.6 cm).
