Moderate darkening and expected surface wear. Comes with a JSA Letter of Authenticity dated August 27, 2018 and signed by Managing Member James J. Spence, Jr. Provenance: Acquired directly from the Kiner Family.

The baseball was signed by 9 professional baseball players, coaches, and umpires, including 2 Hall of Famers:

Ralph Kiner (1922-2014) as "Ralph Kiner" on one of the panels, played left field for the Pittsburgh Pirates between 1946-1953, inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1975

John "Jocko" Conlan (1899-1989) as "Jocko Conlan" to the left of the sweet spot, played center field for the Chicago White Sox before transitioning to umpiring after 1934, served as a National League Umpire between 1941-1965, inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974

Also featuring the signatures of Frank "Frankie" Gustine (1920-1991), an infielder for the Pittsburgh Pirates between 1939-1948 (and Ralph Kiner's roommate); Truett "Rip" Sewell (1907-1989), a pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates between 1938-1949; Al Lyons (1918-1965), a pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1947; and Billy Cox (1919-1978), a 3rd baseman and shortstop for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1941 and between 1946-1947.

In their 1947 Season, the Pittsburgh Pirates tied for eighth and last place with the Philadelphia Phillies with an overall record of 62-92. The Pirates faced off against the Brooklyn Dodgers, Boston Braves, Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, St. Louis Cardinals, and New York Giants between April and September of that year.

This baseball was obtained by Ralph Kiner, whose Major League Baseball career started with the Pittsburgh Pirates. During Kiner's sensational career as an outfielder and hitter, he was elected to the Pirates All Stars for 5 consecutive years, from 1948-1952. Kiner played for the Chicago Cubs (1953-1954) and the Cleveland Indians (1955) during the remainder of his 9-year-long professional career. Overall, he was a 7x home run leader, with a lifetime batting average of .279. Kiner retired at age 32 after a serious back injury.

Kiner pursued a career as an Emmy award-winning sportscaster after his professional baseball career. He hosted a post-game television segment called "Kiner's Korner" and commentated Chicago White Sox and New York Mets games for 53 seasons, making him the third-longest active baseball sportscaster of all time. He was inducted into the New York Mets Hall of Fame in 1984.
