Abraham Lincoln Mourning Ribbon Worn at his 1865 Funeral





[ABRAHAM LINCOLN], Funeral Mourning Ribbon, May 4, 1865, Springfield, Illinois. 2.675" x 6.25", white lace and black satin design, with small .75" x 1" copper-embossed framed album photograph of President Lincoln at center.

Accompanied by an envelope, 7" x 5", with a handwritten note that states, "This was worn by my mother - Ella Karmen - who was a student at Jacksonville College, Ill - and was taken to Abraham Lincoln's funeral at Springfield. Elsie Carpenter Davis."


After President Lincoln's assassination, his body was transported by a funeral train that departed on April 21, 1865, and traveled from Washington, DC to Springfield, IL, tracing the route Lincoln had traveled to Washington as President-Elect.
