Large oil on canvas done by Rookwood artist Carl Schmidt, circa 1915. This painting echo's Schmidt’s Vellum glaze scenic vases with great detail and rich color. Signed lower right, Carl Schmidt, the painting measures 18 by 12 inches and overall with original metal leaf frame, 23 3/4 by 17 1/2 inches. Condition is very good with craqueleur but the painting has been recently cleaned and varnished and is ready to display. There is a typewritten title “Autumnal Sunset Near Youngstown, Ohio” and bio affixed to the back of the frame but it is the bio of another Ohio artist, Carl Schmitt and not Rookwood’s Carl Schmidt. We know our friend Carl’s work and this is definitely him. That makes the title somewhat suspect but it seems like a reasonable one.
