Description
Gilded Age Life-Sized Marble Figure of a Nymph, signed on lower side "Prof. Petrilli, Firenze". She is depicted holding aloft a basin, one breast exposed, a pleasant look on her face, 52" tall. Uneven base. Missing the front portion of the basin, one fingertip, some cracks in arm. From the garden of "Ayrault", 45 Catherine St., Newport, RI. "Ayrault House was built in 1915 as the summer home of Miss Virginia Scott Hoyt, a resident of New York City. The house is neo-Georgian in style and was designed by the New York architectural firm of Cross and Cross, designers of the Tiffany Building and other NYC landmarks."
