3 Japanese Chawan Tea Bowls; a bowl enameled with Buddhist Arhats and a dragon to inside of bowl in the style of Korin or Kenzan, the foot with a notched rim and with a Japanese cloth storage bag; a bowl with an apple painted to the inside and a stem, leaf, and inscription to the outside in the style of Korin or Kenzan, impressed round mark outside near base filled with glaze and a Japanese fabric storage bag; a bowl in black glaze with gold and enamel butterflies in the style of Ninsei, with impressed mark to base and inventory label "175 / Ninsei" in Japanese wood storage box The first bowl with 5 small flakes to mouth restored with brown lacquer and light age related wear to enamels, the second with 2 hairlines from the mouth and several very tiny glaze flakes to mouth, the third with age related wear to surface enamels, black and gold. Diameter of first 5 inches (12.8 cm.). PROVENANCE: Purchased at PB84, a subsidiary of Sotheby Parke Bernet in the early 1980's.
