He did his military service in North Africa where he became a prisoner soon. In 1945 he returned to Italy and worked as a journalist after the war, traveling to many countries in South America, whose culture but also poverty and oppression he captured in his paintings. In the 50s, Lucio Ranucci was represented in numerous important group exhibitions, including the 'Biennale de Panamericana Mexico' in 1958 and the 'Biennale de Sao Paulo'.
