Item Details
Description
Chinese Yongzheng ruby-red underglaze chrysanthemum form porcelain plate. Shallow curvature flaring upward to form the floral chrysanthemum rim, with lobed petal shaped surrounding the broad wide cavetto. Raised upon a slightly concaved wide foot base. The Chrysanthemum is one flower where the color white gives it a positive meaning. White chrysanthemums represent nobility and elegance. They are also thought to attract good luck to the home and represent a life of ease, symbol of joy and a wish for a peaceful retirement. The central interior decorated with flying Cranes above pond peaceful Lishui water and fresh yellow-green grass. The graceful crane is a common emblem in paintings. The crane symbolizes longevity as well as wisdom. It is fabled that when a crane reaches 600 years old it no longer needs to eat. It stands as a homophone for he ‘peace, harmony’. An embroidery of a crane formed part of the regalia of the top rank of Imperial officials. ‘Guan’ sounds the same as 官 guan ‘official’ and 冠 guan ‘hat, first place’ so can symbolize the wish for promotion to a high official position. A crane is often portrayed with a tortoise (longevity) or a deer (longevity and riches). A stork often accompanies the Queen Mother of the West. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous craftsman.

The under-base bears a reign mark, a vertical six underglaze blue script characters reign mark, enclosed within double fine rings, Made in The Years of Yongzheng Reign Period of The Great Qing Dynasty.

Measurements: 1-3/4" H x 9-1/8" Diam.
