Description
C. Ford Riley (American/Florida, b. 1952), "Pathway through the Trees", oil on board, signed lower left, 14 in. x 11 in., framed. Note: Known as the "Audubon of the 1980s," C. Ford Riley has spent his career documenting the wildlife and their habitats surrounding his hometown of Jacksonville, Florida. With a particular passion for birds, Riley meticulously sketches the animals and their environment before beginning a painting, and he then uses layers of washes and paint to add depth to his work. Although the paintings look extremely realistic, Riley maintains that he includes a "multitude of brush strokes which are probably more commonly associated with Impressionism." In the painting presented here, Riley's technique is employed to depict a sun-dappled pathway through a wooded area of Florida.
