AMERICAN NEEDLEWORK SAMPLER, silk on linen, ten alphabet and numeral rows above "Elizabeth Smith Her / Work In The Year 1838". Housed under glass in an old frame with partially torn label for "A. J. B[...]" of New York City, NY. Date 1838. 7 1/4" x 15 1/4" sight, 8 1/8" x 16 1/8" OA.
Moderate fading, overall toning and discoloration, frame with wear, separation to lower corner joints, and loss to veneer along one side. Not examined out of frame.
