Description
Assembled set of five framed 19th C. hand-colored ornithological engravings by Claude Fessard after Jean Lebrecht Reinold (1744-1807) from "Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux d'Afrique" . Birds represented are: Le Buseray, L'Autour Huppe, La Chouette Blanche, Le Caffre, and Le Buzon. All have "Jn. Lebrecht Reinold Pt." lower left and "Clde. Fessard, Sculp." lower right. Below the title on two prints: "de l'Imprimerie de Lauglois", on two others: " Imprime pao Langlois", and a fifth has no printers' line. All showing clear plate marks, on large oblong sheets. Presented in identical gold frames. All show foxing, some water staining, rippling. All frames approx. 22" x 14 1/4". All sheets fill frames, but there is a slight variation in plate sizes, one being approx. 9 1/8" x 11 3/4", another approx. 9 1/2" x 11 1/2", and the remaining three approx. 9 3/8" x 11 3/4". Not examined out of frames.
