This is a vintage wood sculpture of a a Nommo couple, Dogon Peoples, Mali , West Africa.Carved wood with a well weathered surface. The figure represents Nommo ancestors teaching the Dogon peoples how to Pray for rain to the star Sirius and the Water planet that the Nommo originated from. ~ One of the most remarkable creation stories in all of Africa!Sculptures such as this were traditionally placed on personal or village shrines and acted as a medium to the spirit world. The figure itself measures 18 inches tall x 6 inches wide.
