ABOUT BRUGES: The artist was commissioned in 2010 to photograph the medieval 14th century city of Bruges, Belgium..reputed to be the most beautiful city in North or Central Europe. Not just a city in Belgium, Bruges is also part of Flanders, and is known throughout the continent for it's Flemish charm, chocolate, lace, swans and languid canals. Bruges was the cultural capital of Europe in 2002, is located between the North Sea and Brussels (capital of the European Union) and is renown for it's history of Flemish art.

Referred to as 'The Venice of the north' it's famed canals have existed from before the year 1050. In the fifteenth century the Flemish Primitives triggered an artistic revolution in Central Europe. Every five years the city presents a grand 4 month long citywide festival to show off it's culture-Expo's such as 'Van Eyck to DÃ¼rer' presented homage to artists Jan Van Eyck and Albrecht DÃ¼rer, two great masters from the period 1420-1530. "In Bruges", a 2008 film starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson is set almost entirely in Bruges. The city's major landmarks and history are mentioned repeatedly throughout the film, as are the contrasted viewpoints of the two lead characters of the story.

BIOGRAPHY: Lahary is an American visual artist working in 35mm film, gelatin silver prints, photo-lithographs and film/video. He is ranked internationally in the ArtFact.com auction database, has been listed on ArtNet and is collected privately & publicly both domestically and abroad. His photographic body of work and films have been screened and exhibited worldwide including the Netherlands, Britain, France, Australia, New York and throughout the United States. As an author, he is published in paperback by Myrdle Court Press of London.
