Very rare. WorldCat shows only a single copy in the US and one other in Australia. A chronometer and watch-maker by trade, as well as a mathematical genius, after writing one of the first books on Daguerreotype photography, Towson turned to Navigation and became the foremost expert in sailing ships along a "great circle" route of the globe rather than in straight lines, which greatly cut the amount of time required for long sea voyages.

This method required complex mathematical calculations, so Towon published a book of Tables for the benefit of sea captains not adept in advanced mathematics. He followed that popular tome with this privately-printed pamphlet, explaining his Navigation system; this enabled the Captain of the clipper ship Marco Polo, carrying emigrants from England to Australia in 1851, to cut a thousand miles, and a full month, off the conventional route of straight-line navigating, becoming the first ship to make the voyage and return to England in less than six months.
