North America, United States, ca. mid 19th century CE. Three antique photographs in leather-bound wooden cases. First is a daguerreotype half-portrait of a woman with tightly-bound hair and a black gown; the picture is framed with an embossed oval brass mat and encased with an ornate brass perimeter and protective glass pane. Another daguerreotype is a three-quarter portrait of a young man with his elbow resting on a cloth-covered table; an arched interior brass mat holds the photo in place while a brass perimeter and glass panel protect the image. Last is a half-portrait tintype of a balding gentleman wearing a high-collared shirt and a dark jacket; an oval brass mat stabilizes the picture, and a thin brass perimeter and glass panel protect the photograph. Each photo is contained within a respective leather-bound wooden case, the largest of which has become separated from its other half. Size of largest: 3.125" W x 3.625" H (7.9 cm x 9.2 cm).

Condition
Smaller daguerreotype has wear and fading to photo, loss to exterior leather cover, and loosening to binding on spine. Larger daguerreotype has extensive photo wear and fading, minor tarnishing to brass surfaces, and wear to exterior case; case halves have become separated but both are present. Tintype has fading to photograph, minor scratching to glass panel, wear to interior lining, fading to exterior case and loosening to spine binding.
