Description
French figural parcel gilt spelter sculpture, German Shepherds, late 19th / early 20th c. after Louis-Albert Carvin (French, 1875-1951). Measures 8 1.2"x5 1/2"x12 1/2". Weight 9 pds. PROVENANCE: A NYC/Charleston SC Private Estate. Born in Paris in 1875 Louis-Albert Carvin studied under Gardet and Fremiet. Member of the Society des Artistes Français and he exhibited at the Salon des Artists Francais from 1894 until 1933 and received the Medal of Honor in 1894. He sculpted lions, panthers, birds, dogs (especially shepherds for which he is particularly noted) and horses.
