19th-early 20th century AD. A very large rectangular facetted emerald with incised birds, rosettes and six-line calligraphic inscription from the Qur'an to the facetted obverse, set into a later white gold wire-frame mount with inset forty-two brilliant-cut diamonds to the rim; suspension loop with '750' stamp (for 18 carat gold"). 19 grams, 46mm (1 3/4"). From the family collection of a Hampstead gentleman; formerly acquired in the 1980s, supplied with geologic report No. TL005214, by geologic consultant Dr R. L. Bonewitz.
