France: bronze medal commemorating the 100th Astroid discovered, featuring Jewish Franco-German astronomer Hermann Mayer Salomon Goldschmidt, 1868; by Alphée Dubois; size: 69.25mm; thickness: 4.5mm; weight: 167.7g. Obverse: allegorical female figure + Fr. legend "100 Planets Discovered Between Mars and Jupiter 1801-1868" & names of 3 pioneering astronomers Piazzi, Olbers & Hencke. Reverse: profiles of John Russell Hind, Goldschmidt & Robert Luther. Goldschmidt received the Royal Astronomical Society's Gold Medal in 1861 for discovering more asteroids than any other person up to that time. In original case.
