Scarce deluxe hardcover issue of the four landmark catalogues of Warren Heckrotte's exceptional collection of rare cartography and voyages. Mr. Heckrotte, a physicist at the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory, began collecting rare maps in the 1960's. By the early decades of the 21st century he had amassed an authoritative collection, the catalogues for the sale of which are offered here in one volume. Mr. Heckrotte edited and contributed to California 49: Forty-nine Maps of California from the 16th Century to the Present, published in 1999. He was known as both a scholar of cartography as well as a collector. Many of the present catalogue entries were based on Mr. Heckrotte's own descriptions.
