John Tyler Signed Massive Four-Languages Ship's Passport
One oversized partially printed sheet, 20.5" x 16.5". Dated "May 28, 1842", and signed by John Tyler as President "J. Tyler". printed in French, Spanish, English, and Dutch. Saw toothed Presidential seal intact and affixed mid document. Light toning and expected folds with slight loss of paper along fold lines, not affecting text. Lovely strong contrasting ink with vibrant signatures.
This passport, printed in French, Spanish, English, and Dutch authorizes passage of "Abraham Lewis, master or commander of the Ship called the Milton… lying at the present port of New Bedford …. And laden with provisions, stores and Utensils for a Whaling voyage …"
This particular Whaling ship, The Milton, today is a documented Whaling vessel located in the Report of the History of the American Whale Fishery.
A handsome President Jefferson signed example of this exceptionally large four language ship passport. Would present well framed.
