Description
Roman Egypt Speckled Diorite Apis Bull
Of circa 1st century BC, carved of a greenish speckled diorite,(first 2 images are more color correct), a reclining young bovine, apparently a reference towards the Apis Bull. The extremely hard granite like stone still with remains of its once allover polish. This same diorite used in numerous Egyptian carvings including some quite earlier. In fact, a reminder of a fine Egyptian mace head here, of this same stone that I will also offer along with numerous other ancient Egyptian things to be listed here.Good condition except for a corner of its base cracked off, that probably done in antiquity. 3 1/4" X 2 1/4" base, 2.5" height
