Description
Circa 1850, Edgefield, South Carolina, attributed to Stoney Bluff. The piece having an uncommon single handle form on what is quite a large jar for this configuration. The strap handle is attached to a very ovoid body with a single ring tooled rim and well fired alkaline glaze. The piece is likely slave made. This jar was recently discovered on the hearth of a Bamberg, South Carolina home and it is covered with fat and food residue as found. A small puncture hole at one side which emits tight hairlines that to not reach rim or base. Otherwise good condition and the piece is very sturdy. H14 1/4" Sold from the collection of a private Bamberg South Carolina family.
