Description
This lot consists of a gouache drawing on paper, done in the realist style of Edward Hopper (American, 1882-1967). Hand inscription at bottom right reads, "E Hopper". This Modern Art Image depicts a woman standing in her doorway threshold. The woman is dressed in a beautiful red dress and hat and appears to be waiting for someone, perhaps her lover. This modern art image is done in the realist style for which Hopper is so well known. A simple framing would make this piece a highlight of any art lovers collection. This unframed piece measures approximately 9.5" x 13.5".
En verso a black ink stamp reads "ANDREW CRISPO GALLERY".
Hopper, used to water views from childhood, was raised in a home on the Hudson River. He showed early art talent. Following two years of illustration work in 1901, he became a student at the New York School of Art under William Merritt Chase and Robert Henri, the latter being credited by Hopper as his most influential teacher.
