c1860 S.E. Root/N. Muller Pendulum Alarm Clock

Item Details

Description

This very cool mid 19th century pendulum alarm clock was made by Samuel Emerson Root with the case being attributed to Nicholas Muller. The clock face has two sets of Roman numerals and two slots for winding, one for winding the clock, one for the alarm. The case appears to be steel with hand painted details, one detail being the pastoral scene near the base. The back is secured by a piece of wood with the clock works attached. The only marking we can find is the one around the clock face being Patent May 10, 1859. Measures approx 6" tall. From the estate of Francis Hamlin.

Condition

Clock is not working but winds smoothly. Comes with no key. Hands loose but present. Door closes but does not latch. Chipping and wear to painted details. Black wood of the clock appears to be a replacement.
