Description
Group of ten (10) assorted decorative covered boxes of various materials including three (3) of oak and exotic woods including Reuge mother-of-pearl inlaid music box; one (1) Crown Staffordshire Hunting Scene porcelain box; four (4) of metalware including Sheffield round powder box and mixed metal miniature trunk (marked 0.930 and "N" within double circle and flower on base), 2.425 oz troy; one (1) miniature oval black Russian lacquer box with paper decal top; and one (1) Gucci red leather trinket box. 1 1/8" H x 1 3/4" W x 1 3/8" D to 6 5/8" H x 13 3/4" W x 7 7/8" D. American, English, and Continental, 20th century. Provenance: The Estate of Jane Dudley, Nashville, TN and Palm Beach, FL. Social icon Jane Dudley was the founder of one of the South's most prestigious charity events--the Swan Ball, benefiting Cheekwood. She traveled the world as the wife of U.S. Ambassador to Denmark, Guilford Dudley, with whom she shared a landmark Nashville estate, Northumberland. A graduate of Nashville's Parmer School, Ward Belmont and Vanderbilt University, she worked briefly for the Tennessean newspaper and later for Tiffany & Co., where she managed corporate accounts for more than twenty years and later served on the board of directors. Mrs. Dudley was also a member of the International Best Dressed List. In 1963 she was the founding chairman of The Swan Ball, now the nation's longest running charity ball. She also chaired the Tiffany Feather Ball in New York from 1981-1991, the ball benefiting the Palm Beach Cancer Society in the 1970s (featuring entertainer Bob Hope), and in England, a ball at Blenheim Palace to raise funds for the historic castle's roof.
Condition
Most boxes with some damage. Music box not in working condition. Hunting Scene box with stains under glaze and one chip to upper corner of box. Stains to surface Gucci box. Hinge broken to Sheffield and large oak container and cracks to glaze of oval lacquer box.
