Oil on canvas. 30 x 25 in., 35 x 30 in. (framed). From askart.com: Magee was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1846, although the majority of his career was spent in Philadelphia. He studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts from 1896-1902, later winning several awards at his alma mater, including a gold medal in 1907. He also studied with fellow Impressionist William Merrit Chase in New York and Ashcan School leader Robert Henri in Paris.Between 1900 and 1924, Magee's work was accepted into shows at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Art Institute of Chicago, the National Academy of Design, the Society of Independent Artists, the Plastic Club and the Salons of America, to name just a few.His works can be found in the Johnson Collection in Philadelphia, and the Lord Richmond Collection in London.He was a member of the Society of Independent Artists; the American Art Society; and the Concord Art Association.
