Description: Unsigned, posthumous impression. Rona Schneider recorded this as an unrecorded plate. No lifetime impressions have been located. An edition of 100 were printed in 1993 by Rick Pantell. Parrish was in Venice for two weeks from April 12 to 27, 1886.

Stephen Parrish (1846-1938) printmaker and painter, he was born on July 9, 1846 in Philadelphia to conservative Quaker parents and abolitionists. He studied with a local Philadelphia art teacher when he was 30, then went on to the Pennsylvania Academy in 1878 and the next year in New York at National Academy. He made his first etchings in 1879 and for the next eleven years produced 153 different etchings. He was a meticulous record keeper so it is known that in 1887 his income from the sale of etchings was $3,874.76 a good income in 1887. His son Maxfield Parrish (1870-1966) was a famous painter and illustrator.
