Two indispensable tools for the 19th century surveyor or logger on the go- a solid brass Keuffel & Esser Co. of New York hand level, which can sight objects perfectly level to the horizon; and a W.N. Matthews Corp of St. Louis, Mo "Teleheight"- an ingenious pocket tool which uses the fundamental qualities of trigonometry and a single bubble level to allow surveyors, forestry services or curious bird watchers to quickly ascertain the height of an object or tree by sight. Both vintage tools include their original leather carry cases; and the Matthews includes handy directions for how to use it.
