Description
Birdseye Clarence
Clarence Birdseye ANS "(Frozen Assets)"
1p autograph note inscribed overall by American entrepreneur Clarence Birdseye (1886-1956) and signed by him as "Clarence J. Birdseye / (Frozen Assets)." at bottom. On a cream paper slip mounted to a larger sheet. Expected light paper folds, and double hole punched along the left edge, else near fine. Very rare. Comes with a perfect display image--a package of Birds Eye frozen Baby Sweet Peas printed on sturdy stock paper, 6.25" x 5.125".
The note reads in full, with unchanged spelling and punctuation:
"Put this in the Appendix = where it wont be too intimately associated with your Big Names.
Clarence J Birdseye
(Frozen Assets)."
Clarence Birdseye first became interested in food preservation while working for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. While conducting field research in Canada, Birdseye observed that flash or fast freezing, as opposed to slow freezing, resulted in better tasting foods devoid of either freezer burn or changed texture. Birdseye established the predecessor of the Birds Eye Frozen Food Company in the 1920s, where his methods of freezing meat and fish were extended to fruits and vegetables; the product line is a household name.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
