High:27.75"width:33.5"with frame, high:20.75"width:26.5" without a frame. /////////////////////////////////////(From Wiki):"Gino Scarpa (born 8 November 1924) is an Italian-born Norwegian painter, printmaker and sculptor, and former mountaineer.He was born in Venice, where he also grew up, to inspector Silvio Scarpa and Linda Gaggio. He studied architecture in Venice, and printmaking in Malmö. He worked several years as mountain guide in the Dolomites, until he moved to Copenhagen in 1958, where he established himself as a full-time artist. He moved to Oslo in 1970, and became a Norwegian citizen in 1978. He is represented in the National Gallery of Norway with the painting Daggry from 1978, as well as prints. He is represented in the Norwegian Museum of Contemporary Art in Oslo with the sculptures Signum (1972) and Bølge (1973)./////////To see examples of Gino Scarpa signature that matches this one put his name and signature(Ginio Scarpa signature) into google and scroll down./////////////////////////////////////////////////////////David's notes: While Gino Scarpa is not a name often heard in the art world, this is an extraordinary work by this 20th century Italian Norwegian painter.The face of the girl is typical Scarpa,he painted this same face over and over, but the entire composition of the work, from the lush leaves that envelope her to the stylized doe in her lap is unique and original, heads and shoulders above his other works of the same period.The entire painting has a wonderful exotic sensuality...the use of diagonals and overlapping lines and colors presage the Italian modernist works of Nicola Simbari and others in the 1970's that used color and a twisting movement in their works to create a kind of visual jazz.He has also tapped into the Asian market, this could be a work from Thailand or Singapore, in the relationship between the girl, nature and the animal she cradles, there is an affection for the land and the wilderness, which seems to represent innocence, vulnerability and trust.A real masterpiece from this obscure figure in the art world.

Good condition overall, the first part of the first name of the artist, the G,I and N has worn off over time, so it reads: 0.Scarpa.Provenance: A storage locker near Coney Island Brooklyn.
