Description
An excellent Maya censer (incense holder) from the Pacific slope region of Guatemala, c. AD 400 - 800, a fine ceremonial vessel with a handle sculpted in the form of a nicely detailed monkey grasping the bowl. He is adorned with large ear spools and a ceremonial bib. Attractive brown surfaces. L: 9 in (22.8 cm). Strong mineral deposits, signs of usage. Ex Tribal Treasures Gallery.
