Franciszek Wojcik (Poland, 1903 - 1984)
Franciszek Wojcik (WojciechГіw in Podlasie 1903 - Zakopane 1984) - belonged to a group of artists associated with the Zakopane artistic community. From the time of World War II, when he settled in Zakopane, until his death he was one of the most active painters working under the Tatras. He had over 50 individual exhibitions in the country and abroad, he took part in several dozen district and national group exhibitions, he was a member of the Association of Polish Artists. His works enjoyed considerable popularity, he was awarded several times for his work.
He was born in Wojciechow and spent his childhood in Cieszyn. After a period of internment during World War I and military service, he settled in the Eastern Borderlands (in Zamosc, Konskie, Lwow, Kowlu), and then in Krakow, where, apart from artistic activity, he was professionally associated with sport (among others as an instructor of the Polish Gymnastic Society "Falcon").
He began his artistic education by studying at the Department of Art Industry of the State Industrial School in Lviv, then studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow (in 1932-1939), after receiving his diploma he would receive a scholarship at Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome.
Studies under the direction of Stanislaw Kamocki, and then a friendship of several years with the professor had a great impact on the work of Franciszek Wojcik. He represented a realistic direction in painting, landscapes, portraits and still lifes came out from under his brush. He also painted church interiors. In his works he used various techniques such as tempera, watercolor, pastel, but oil painting was the leading one.
When he lived in Zakopane, he most often painted Tatra and mountain landscapes, many of which can still be found in numerous private collections. It is in this field of Franciszek Wojcik's work that the current exhibition is devoted, and the images presented on it come from the private collection of the artist's granddaughter.
