Description
Large Sterling Silver Kokapelli Pendant with makers mark over "sterling" stamped on reverse. Approximately 1.5" X 2.5". Weighs 34.2 grams. This is a custom, one of a kind, rustic Kokapelli pendant made by Famous Cherockee Silversmith, Lee Epperson. Epperson's hallmark is faint, but clearly identifiable over ëSterlingà on reverse. One of the most well-known Cherokee Mastercraftman and Silversmiths, Lee Epperson was born in 1935 in Arizona and draws his inspiration from the cultural and artistic heritage of the Southwest. Originally educated and trained as a mechanical engineer, Lee began creating artwork with watercolor painting, sculpture, metallurgy and finally silver jewelry and miniature sterling art pottery, which he began making in 1973. EppersonÃs work is collected internationally and he is a decorated, celebrated artist featured in many publications, such as the Lapidary Journal, Rock & Gem Magazine, and the Collectible Sterling Silver Identification and Value Guide by Fred Rezazadeh. He is credited with discovering a revolutionary technique of eliminating ìfire scaleî, which forms on the surface when sterling silver is heated and cooled. EppersonÃs jewelry reflects his skills as a silversmith, and while he is mostly known in the silver world for making jewelry boxes and silver/gold sculptures, his jewelry has won awards for his unique and creative use of rich detail and a variety of textures and stones to tell a story of the Southwest. His work is often escribed as beautiful, bold, and heavy and this pendant is no exception. Don't let our estimate fool you on this one. City: State: Arizona Date:
