Description
Rare Pair of polychromed Ladybug bookends, each showing a ladybug on a sunflower, cast in 1937. Marked on the base with the Rookwood symbol, the date and shape 6594 and with a poem on the rear which reads: “Lady bug, Lady bug, fly away home; Your house is on fire and your children are gone. All but one and her name is Anne, and she crept under the pudding pan.” Height 3 7/8 inches. The sunflower on this rare form is colored in mat glazes of yellow, green and gray while the Ladybug is done in glossy red brown with black spots. No crazing but each does have a professional repair to small chips on the rear, one at the base and the other at the top corner.
