BOROTRA JEAN: (1898-1994) French Tennis Champion and Politician. Borotra, nicknamed the ''Bounding Basque'', is one of the four French musketeers who, together with Lacoste, Cochet and Brugnon, won the first Davis Cup for France. Best world player in 1924, he also won at Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the Australian open. Borotra was imprisoned during the latter years of WWII. T.L.S., J.Borotra, one page, 4to, Paris, 9th April 1954, on his personal printed stationery, to Cl. Thomas, in French. Borotra thanks his correspondent for his invitation to visit Alger and the sports club stadium, but explains that these dates coincide with the French club finals and he has to stay with his team.
