Pair of 19th Century French Silver-Plated 'Aide Toi' Armorial Engraved Covered Servers Decorated with a chased floral motif. Each with scrolled feet, two handles, and gold washed interiors. Each with a Griffin crest, which reads, 'Aide Toi Dieu T'Aidera'. '1' impressed to one lid and server top, '2' impressed to the other. First half 19th century. Approximate dimensions: 6 1/4 high x 8 1/4 wide x 5 1/2 inches deep.}. Condition: Minor loss to plating reveals the copper beneath, mainly to the lids. 'Aide Toi' was a 19th century French organization whose goal was to stir up the electorate against the govenment during the Bourbon Restoration. 'Aide Toi Dieu T'Aidera' roughly translates to 'Aide Toi, God Will Help You'.
