Description
DESCRIPTION: Brass desk lamp from the Pennsylvania "Hills" Capitol Decorated with dragon and snake busts, green porcelain lamp shade. PROVENANCE: Per the consignor, this lamp is from the first Pennsylvania capitol building, circa 1897.Designed by Stephen Hills, the first capitol building known now as, the "Hills Capitol," housed Pennsylvania's government from 1822 until its destruction by fire in 1897. These lamps were originally lit by gas in the senate chambers of the Hills Capitol, but were converted to electric after the current capitol building was completed in 1906. MEASUREMENTS: 24" x 15" x 9". CONDITION: Lamp: Good. Converted from gas to electric. Gas component has been removed. Patina on brass finish.
