Description
One of the most classic yet rarely seen diving helmet models in the world! This is a Danish 2 bolt helmet invented by Peter Hansen over 100 years ago. Hansen came up with this design to enable divers to get in and our of their suits and helmets quicker while working in extremely cold temperatures. The rubber collar on suits would get very stiff when frozen, making a 12 bolt pattern suit a huge hassle! Various countires militaries including the Danish Royal Navy, and coutless commercial divers used this iconc helmet.
This helmet features 3 lights (windows), a communications cup and the very top of the bonnet has an extra layer of copper for reinforcement! The back of the bonnet has a communications fitting, two exhausts and air fitting present. The helmet is missing the original inner neck ring which had the two bolts attached to it. There is a new brass ring that will accompany the helmet, but will require some work and also the installation of the correct bolts. The inside of the bonnet is complete with air vents, dual exhaust buttons, vintage communications and all the glass.
The front edge of the breastplate is stamped KASSERET. There is a Crown stamp and 47. The crown inspection stamp would indicate this helmet was part of the Royal Navy inventory! The helmet certainly has seen some underwater adventures in its time, which shows in its wonderful patina.
Danish 2 bolt helmets do not enter the market often! A wonderful example with lots of character like this is a special find! When collecting antique diving helmets a major factor to consider is the overall appearance. If you enjoy helmets or antiques in general with authentic use that retain their original appearance, this helmet should then seriously be considered. Even from a distance, this piece of diving history radiates an aura of mystique combined with hard work and underwater adventure!
All helmets sold & auctioned by Nations Attic Inc. will come with a certificate of authenticity (COA). This COA will have a serial # on it that will match the # on a tamperproof holographic decal placed on the inside of the helmet. This level of security and long term assurance of the helmets authenticity is un-matched in the industry and very important to us.
The display stand shown in the photos is not included. The option to purchase one after the auction will be provided. All helmets will be shipped in two double boxed boxes via FedEx. Worldwide shipping available. A shipping quote prior to the auction can be provided by emailing your postal code.
