Description
Mandaya People of eastern Mindanao, with characteristic silver-mounted horned hilt and handwrought, waisted blade with prominent central ridge. In its carved wooden scabbard with colorful woven covering and rattan mounts, including its belt. Second half of the 19th century or earlier. From the estate of Captain Wallace C. Taylor, a member of the Nebraska Volunteers, who saw action during both the Spanish-American War and the Philippine-American War. A copy of private research done on Captain Taylor will be included with this lot. Minor wear. Overall length 32.3cm. Condition II
