Flowers. Oil on canvas board. 20 x 16 in. (board), 23 x 19 in. (framed). Born in Athens in 1896 and died in 1987. He studied painting at various Paris artists' workshops. He worked first as a designer and cartoonist in various magazines (1913-1916). In the late 20s he left for Paris, where he stayed until 1930. When he returned to Athens established immediately by all art critics as an important modernist artist. He painted with a restless pearshaped touch and with strong tonal variations, bringing light into a few parts of the composition, and leaving large areas midtones and shadows. He presented his work in solo and group exhibitions, Athens, Paris 1926, Venice Biennale 1936 Pan 1948.
