AN ANTIQUE MAP, "Occidentalior Tractus Indiarum Orientalium à Promontorio Bonæ Spei ad C. Comorin," AMSTERDAM, CIRCA 1675, hand colored engraving on paper, printed by Frederick de Wit (1630-1706), showing the coastline of the Indian Ocean from the Cape of Good Hope, to the Arabian Peninsula, Persia ending with India, including Madagascar and the Maldives Islands, with figural cartouche including a peacock, a cow, fronted by a dueling lion and persian leopard defeating a serpent, including ivory and other trade goods, surmounted by a Shah with hooded monk and kneeling supplicant, an elephant with howdah, ending with exotic figures smoking pipes and wearing animal pelts overseen by an African warrior king on horseback, hand numbered 142 U/L, overlaid with rhumb lines issued from fourteen wind roses, with two compass roses. 17 1/2" x 21 1/2" Provenance: Property from a Corporate Art Collection.
Condition
Some stains, toning, and occasional foxing spots, but overall in good to very good condition, wear commensurate with age and use.
