MEEKS (American active: 1797-1869) AN AMERICAN EMPIRE BURL WALNUT SOFA, CIRCA 1830, in the New York fashion, the flat, serpentine, upholstered back, over a slightly bowed upholstered bench seat, raised on a wide skirt with egg-and-dart and cavetto molding, ending in "C" scroll feet, on casters. Height: 35" Width: 64" Depth: 23" Note: Secondary wood: cherry.
Condition
Some minor losses of veneer. Possible ornament loss at front rail. Back casters have been replaced. One back leg with an apparent repair. Small professional repairs to the veneer occasionally throughout, some light color stain at right corner, but overall in very good condition, wear commensurate with age and use.
