AN ANTIQUE MAP, "Poli Arctici et Circumiacentium Terrarum Descriptio Novissima," CIRCA 1676, hand colored engraving on paper, published by Frederick de Wit (1630-1706), a banner cartouche U/L, "Gedruckt 't Amsteldam: By Frederick de Wit in de Calverstraet aen den Dam in Witte Pascaert," with images of whaling with spears, a poacher hunts walruses with a musket, men harvest baleen fragments, blubber is hauled to a burning cauldron, and a dog watches as barrels are sealed, bound for a demanding 17th century market, hand numbered 144. 17" x 19 1/2" Provenance: Property from a Corporate Art Collection.
Condition
Some lacerations, destabilized paint, handling creases, some yellowing, apparent stains mostly in margins, but overall in good condition, wear commensurate with age.
