PUBLII TERENTII, "Carthaginiensis Afri Comoediae Sex," London, Printer James Bettenham, published 1736, Latin text, 316 pages with frontas piece and index, single worn leather bound volume, for the Royal College of Westminster, three page dedication to Duke of Dorset by Thomas Fitzgerald, interior front board pencil inscribed "J. Willey" and brown ink inscribed "Gust Burnaby," front fly page corner brown ink inscribed "ey.ar." 7 5/8" x 5" Provenance: The handwritten brown ink "Gust. Burnaby" on the interior of the front board points to Reverend Gustavus Andrew Burnaby, father of Frederick G. Burnaby a Captain of Queen Victoria's Royal Horse Guards and whose estate once contained this book.
Condition
A single leather bound volume with very worn front board, spine and back board, surface buildup, splattered liquid spots, dry rot, exhibiting faint impressed stamped details with gilt tooled edge remanence, corners bent, small losses on spine, interior pages exhibit water/liquid exposure, warping, foxing, mold, discolorations as well as small part of last page of Index has stuck to interior of back board.
