Henry Barbour (1877-1945) standing next to the giant red wood tree named Barbour in Sequoia National Park, c. 1922. Barbour, a California Congressman, introduced and secured the passage of a bill in 1922 to double the park area. In recognition of his contributions, the giant “founders’ tree was named in his honor. The National Portrait Gallery cites this as “Unknown Photographer, 310708, Giant Forest, SNP, Dedications and Ceremonies, Congressman Barbour Tree. Barbour standing alone at tree.” Image measures 15 ¾” high by 19 ¾” wide, in a block wood frame 18 ¾” high by 22 ¾” wide.
