Henry Barbour (1877-1945) standing next to the giant red wood tree named Barbour in Sequoia National Park, c. 1922. Barbour, a California Congressman, introduced and secured the passage of a bill in 1922 to double the park area. In recognition of his contributions, the giant â€œfoundersâ€™ tree was named in his honor. The National Portrait Gallery cites this as â€œUnknown Photographer, 310708, Giant Forest, SNP, Dedications and Ceremonies, Congressman Barbour Tree. Barbour standing alone at tree.” Image measures 15 ¾” high by 19 ¾” wide, in a block wood frame 18 ¾” high by 22 ¾” wide.
