Excellent and Large group of Batik Fabrics hand made by WPA Artist Vernon Smith. Large group with varied designs, each unique. Some piece bear and artist symbol, some are signed V. Smith. each piece is very good to excellent complete condition. Sizes vary from the smallest: (25" x 16") to the largest: (73" x 34"). Subjects include organic forms, sailing ships, fish, etc.
Vernon B. Smith was a Cape Cod Massachusetts Artist and WPA Administrator known for his Bas Relief woodcarvings, Oil Paintings, Watercolors, and Batik Fabrics. He also worked in metal and created miniatures. The works in the auction are directly from members of his family.
